RULES AND SCORING:

THERE IS NO DESIGNATED EAST.  ROLL FOR EAST WHEN YOU BEGIN THE ROUND.

A round consists of four (4) games. You will play four games at each table before moving to the next table.  A little less than one hour is allowed for each round (including scoring and breaks). Therefore, each game should take approximately 10-12 minutes.  If you find that you are falling behind, try to catch up.  After a time limit (4 games at max 13 minute per game – 52 minutes per round) all players at that table are given a “0” for their last round.  After each round the scorecards will be input. Make sure everyone initials their score. Everyone has a personal score sheet to keep track of their own score. This is your own score sheet and does not get turned in. NO TIME LIMIT OR ROTATION FOR GAMES ON FRIDAY.  IF YOU SIT IN THE WRONG SPOT, YOU WILL GET ZEROS FOR THE ROUND.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SCORING

1.  We use the face value on the National Mah Jongg League Card for scoring except when the number of the session is rolled (EACH SESSION WILL HAVE A DIFFERENT NUMBER THAT WILL BE CONSIDERED A DOUBLE IF ROLLED) or a double (SAME NUMBER ON EACH DIE) is rolled and then we double the value of the card.  THERE ARE NO DOUBLE DOUBLES. IF A DOUBLE IS ROLLED, PLACE THE DICE ON TOP OF THE RACK OF THE NEXT EAST.

2.  If a player picks their own Mah Jongg, double the value that was used in instruction 1.

3.  If the hand is jokerless (not singles and pairs), double the value that was used in instruction 1.  If the player also picks their own Mah Jongg, quadruple the value that was used in instruction 1.

4.  WALL GAME everyone gets 25 points.  If it's a double, then you get 50 points.

5.  Anyone giving Mah Jongg to someone with ONE exposures neg. 10 points.  If it's a double, then neg. 20 points.

6.  Anyone giving Mah Jongg to someone with TWO exposures neg. 20 points.  If it's a double, then neg. 40 points.

7.  Anyone giving Mah Jongg to someone with THREE or more exposures neg. 25 points.  If it's a double, then neg. 50 points.

8.  Please put an “X” on the card for any dead hand - dead hands do not receive wall game points.

9.  We will be playing with a "hot wall".  If you throw the mahj tile and you can't account for at least 3 regular tiles (in your hand or on the table) or 6 flowers, you get negative 25 points.  If the person had two exposures, it's negative 35.  If they had three exposures it's negative 50. (Values are doubled if it's a double.)

ALL OTHER RULES ARE TAKEN FROM THE NATIONAL MAH JONGG LEAGUE

1.  If you steal a tile during the Charleston, you may NOT look at it or your hand is dead.

2.  Your turn begins when you pick a tile from the wall. If you touch it, the tile is yours.  If you CALL a tile and touch or pick it up, it is YOURS.

3.  No picking or looking ahead or your hand is dead.

4.  Your turn ends when you completely name a tile or the tile touches the table.

5.  You cannot call for the previous tile once a picked tile is racked. “Clicked in the rack”

6.  Miscalled Tile - Must be correctly named by anyone at the table - no take-backs - no penalty

7.  A player who calls for a tile is not required to take that tile until an exposure is made or the called tile is TOUCHED. Once that happens, it is mandatory to take the called tile.

8.  A player may make any changes to their exposure until they discard a tile.

9.  If a player challenges (calls dead) another player and they are not dead, challenger is dead.

10.  If you discard a tile before you pick, your hand is dead.

11.  Make sure you verify Mah Jongg before you throw in your hand. Thrown in hands are dead.

12.  You must pick a tile before you exchange for a joker or your hand is dead.

13.  If you CALL a tile, EVEN IF IT'S FOR MAHJ and put it INSIDE your rack versus on TOP of your rack, you are DEAD.
